The Kimberley Process was a major international effort to prevent conflict diamonds from entering global diamond trade. Hailed at the beginning, it is now at crossroads. Meanwhile, other efforts – legislative and voluntary – aim to ensure that trade in other minerals and commodities doesn’t fuel conflict. Such efforts are necessary but may not be sufficient.
