The Rohingya issue was finally covered on Al Jazeera’s The Stream television programme this evening. Dr Wakar Uddin, Chairman of the Burmese Rohingya Association of North America whom Restless Beings have been working with very closely and John Sifton, Asia advocacy director for Human Rights Watch were guests on the show.

Issues of statelessness and citizenship law in Burma, as well as the origins of the Rohingya were covered, with audience members from all over the world adding their voice via video uploads and tweets.

With Human Rights Watch releasing their report today:

The report focuses on how ”The Government Could Have Stopped This”, alluding to the government allowing the violence to occur, however, in reality the initial violence was inevitable as a result of the governments decades of unjust policies toward the Rohingya.

Where the mainstream media fail to give the Rohingya the coverage they deserve, it is up to us to make the atrocities known.
